Flashing Out Hidden Cameras.

Last week, I was reading this thread about how people found out that actually, the Airbnb apartments that they had rented had hidden cameras everywhere. Imagine you have gone to another town, maybe for work or a vacation. Instead of taking the traditional hotels for your stay, you take an Airbnb. An Airbnb is a fully furnished apartment for rent that spans between a day to months. Then to your dismay, you find that your apartment has hidden cameras. How would you react?

While some people argue that the cameras are for security reasons, others are just creepy and perverts. There is really not knowing to which extent people can go for such details. Of course, your privacy will have been invaded which is not only morally wrong but also degrading. That is why I always say, everything good has its upward side and downward side. This is one of technology’s downward sides. How then can one prevent themselves from such situations? There are simpler ways of quickly sweeping any room for hidden cameras.

Over the years it has become less surprising as we’ve become more accepting of closed-circuit cameras, security cameras, and more. You’re probably not comfortable with this, but you can at least accept it as part of keeping society safe.

Hidden cameras in offices, hotel rooms, and even your home are a different matter. However, here’s how to find hidden cameras using a mobile phone.

  1. Your phone is a very powerful tool. It is amazing how many things your smartphone can actually accomplish. Once you are in the room, close the door and draw all the curtains. Turn your camera phone on and use the front-facing camera on your smartphone to look for infrared LEDs used in night-vision cameras, concentrating on areas where you suspect the cameras could be hidden like bulbs, bedside lamps, and air ventilators, and showerheads. Just sweep your camera everywhere. If there are any hidden cameras, they will show as small red or blue lights on your smartphone camera. If you’d like to test the trick ahead of your travels, O’Rourke says you can practice on your TV remote.
  • Apps that are a sprout of technology. We can safely say that technology creates solutions for problems created by technology. There are Apps that can easily detect any hidden cameras in a room. Simply go to your Google play store and download the Apps, some are free while others are premium and every time that you are in a new room, just use the App to detect where the cameras are hidden if any. Apps like Hidden Camera Detector and Glint Finder are free while Hidden Spy Camera detector and Dontspy-2 Detector can be purchased. There is always a choice for everyone.
  • If you are in a new room and notice any suspicious-looking objects, you can always cover them. You can also cover bulbs and other areas that you suspect could be holding hidden cameras. Cameras have since evolved into tiny objects that can be hidden anywhere. They come in different shapes too; from pens, to pins, to bulbs, to butterflies. Even a flower vase could be holding a hidden camera which might just look like an ordinary flower.

The most important thing as you check into your room is to know where to check for hidden cameras like; smoke detectors, electrical outlets, night lights, shelves, small holes on walls, laptops, desktops, computer mice, wall clocks, flowers, vases, and even power outlets.

Whatever you do, do not forget to enjoy your stay, you paid for it after all.
