Cheer the Lads! Honor the Dads!

Last week, I received a call that my dad was unwell and that he had been taken to the hospital. My gut told me to just travel and go see him. When I got to the hospital, I found him in bad shape. He was critical, to say the least. I had to push the nurses to keep attending to him: the doctors to stabilize him enough to transfer him to a better facility.

My mum said, my gut feeling to travel was because of the bond that I share with my father. Daughters have strong bonds with their fathers the same way sons have strong bonds with their mothers. I just realized that we actually do not celebrate our fathers enough and as loudly as we celebrate our mothers. Just in the same manner, we need to cheer the boy too. Urge him on to be a good man.

In one of my other posts, someone said that he only realized how much sacrifice and effort their dad had been making when he got of age and started undertaking similar responsibilities for himself and his family. Fathers, some not all, pour all of themselves into their families. I remember my dad owning two pairs of shoes while my mum had a little more than 50 at the time. In their wardrobe, my mother’s clothes occupied almost all the space. This may not mean anything but to me, it shows that my dad put his family first before his own interests.
