Your Cables & Chargers NEED some ‘TLC’
Imagine talking on a very important call, or in the middle of a zoom meeting or God forbid in the thick of social media ‘tea’ which is really just gossip then your battery starts blinking red! You scramble to connect your device to power only to be met with a chewed cable or a cut charger, the absolute horror!
Cables and chargers are the most important device accessories yet the least taken care of. A good number of us don’t know how to take care of our cables and chargers, heck we don’t even try to take care of them and that shortens their life span. I have found a few ways that we can show these very important accessories some TLC.
- A lot of us wrap our devices’ power chords tightly; this is the commonly used method to keep the chord organized. Unknown to us, this is the surest way of shortening the chords’ lifespan. Continuously wrapping the chord will distress the copper wires and eventually break them. We are advised to wrap the chord loosely though.
- We are always in a rush to plug our chargers from the sockets that we end up damaging them in the process. Rough unplugging may end up cutting the wires hence damaging your charger or cables.
- Leaving our chargers and cables plugged in when not in use, is the most common mistake that we make. Leaving your charger plugged in will significantly reduce its’ lifespan. Make it a habit of unplugging your charger when not using it.
- Having more than one charger or cable will save you the hustle. If you go to the office, have one at your desk. This will save you from carrying your charger or cable around all the time.
- Avoid putting your cable and chargers in contact with sharp edges. The sharp edges will eat at the plastic that is protecting the wires exposing them in the process. This is not only dangerous but it is the fastest way to damage your charger or cable.
Whatever it is that you do, remember that chargers and cable lives matter too!
