5 Ways to Make Family Time Memorable This Season
Christmas time is approaching and we’ve been glued to our screens in this year more than any other. I for one have younger siblings and they all seem to be glued to their screens. I understand that we are in a fast paced, technologically driven world and now more than ever it is important to take time off our phones to catch a breath if not for anything else. Here are some of the things you can try in order to reduce screen time for your young ones.
- Family time.
It’s as easy as putting up a new rule where everyone is asked to leave their devices in their rooms and sit together as a family. You can also achieve this by turning on screen timer on your Smart TV or Digital TV and it will switch off automatically at a certain time or after a certain period of time. This encourages conversation and gives you time to bond with the young ones and figure out what’s going on in their lives.
- Game night.
There are a variety of children friendly games that available to us. You could sit with the family and play a game of Jenga or Scrabble or Uno. It’s important to switch up the games every now and then so as to keep it exciting. An exciting game I came across is song association. In this game the player is given a word and is required to sing a song that has the word in it. For this however, you might need your smartphone to be close up so as to confirm that the songs are real. You could come up with a point system that runs throughout the month and the end the winner is gifted with an accessory of their choice.
- Exercise
It’s the holiday season and we are spending a lot of time together and as a family it is important to stay healthy. A good way to do this is by designating a time where you as a family, work out together. The exercises could be activities such as cycling, walking, doing home workouts or doing zumba at the comfort your houses. You could get a fitness band for everyone in the house. Then come up with a reward system, where the person who reaches a certain goal first, gets exempted from chores. This is definitely a challenge the kids would commit to. But while you are outside, please remember to stay safe by wearing a mask, maintaining social distance and sanitizing your hands.
- Cooking and baking.
Instead of asking the house help to make dinner, try involving the entire family in the cooking process. You can make this fun by trying out a new recipe and crossing your fingers while you wait to see how it turns out. So blast out some music from your sound systems and get down to having a food adventure in your own home.
- Book club.
You could start your own family book club. You could decide on whether to read the same book or a different book then discuss the various books. Not only will your kids be spending less time on their devices, they’ll be gaining knowledge.
Share with us photos of you and your family doing any of the above activities, or any other fun creative activities you come up with, on Facebook (@HamjamboConnectionsLTD), and stand a chance to win a gift voucher. Looking forward to seeing all your lovely photos.
